Weirton Business a Total Loss After Fire

A Weirton business was a total loss on Tuesday after a fire ripped through the roof, taking everything down with it. Fire Chief Jerry Shumate said a taxi driver saw Guglielmo Investments on fire around 3 a.m. Tuesday. The fire department responded shortly after and extinguished the flames. Shumate said the roof was fully involved but said the cause of the fire remains unknown. Firefighters were able to recover necessary files from the building so that business could continue.

Impaired Driving Arrests, Seatbelt Violations Increase Compared to Last Holiday Weekend

The Ohio State Highway Patrol on Tuesday announced that they made more impaired driving arrests and issued more safety belt citations during this Memorial Day weekend as compared to the 2013 holiday weekend. The patrol also reported that 13 people lost their lives over the weekend – a decrease of five deaths when compared to 2013. Three of the fatalities were OVI-related.
