Alpha Won't lay off 750 West Virginia Coal Miners

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - About 750 Alpha Natural Resources workers at West Virginia coal mines will keep their jobs, despite layoff warnings this summer. In a news release Monday, Alpha said operations will continue at eight mines in Logan, Mingo, Boone and Raleigh counties. In July, Alpha warned 1,100 West Virginia workers at 11 mines of anticipated layoffs. The mines produced about 75 percent thermal coal for power generation, and 25 percent metallurgical coal for steel production. The comp...

102-year-old Man Dies Day After Eagle Scout Honor

CARNEGIE, Pa. (AP) - A 102-year-old Pittsburgh-area man has died a day after receiving the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America. Bernard Queneau died Sunday. Pittsburgh Police Looking for Missing Teenager

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh police are looking for an 18-year-old man who hasn't been seen or heard from since the week of Thanksgiving. Police say Trinel Bikus was last seen Nov. 23. They say he telephoned someone two days later saying he was in Pittsburgh's Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood. He hasn't been heard from since. Bikus is black, 5-foot-4 and about 125 pounds. PITTSBURGH (AP) - Thirteen Pittsburgh police canine officers are being fitted for protective vests paid for by money raised in memory of a dog that was fatally stabbed on duty earlier this year. The vests being presented Monday were paid for by the Officer Rocco K-9 Memorial Fund at The Pittsburgh Foundation.
